Mamie comes to town

Hello, Mamie! Mamie, Natalie's godmother Amy, is visiting for two weeks and helping with lots of things like changing diapers, cleaning the house, making dinner, walking the dogs.... It is SO wonderful to have her here. And, serendipitously, she arrived just two days after Brady went back to work, which has been a tremendous help and good timing for both of us new parents.

We all had a rough weekend, though. Eliot was experiencing some pretty intense gas. All of the sudden, he would scream out really loudly like he was in pain, and he would curl up in a ball. We massaged his tummy and tried to burp him, but it didn't help much. He was barely sleeping any. We finally called one of the midwives and she recommended a few things, including "gripe water" -- an over-the-counter homeopathic liquid with tummy-calming ingredients like fennel and chamomile -- and she recommended I drink chamomile and/or fennel tea. I also stopped eating dairy for a few days, and will continue for a few weeks to see if that helps. But, the gripe water seemed to do the trick immediately. He has been back to his usual, sweet self since. And we have all been getting a bit more sleep now, too.

Yesterday, we took a bath. It was Eliot's third bath, but his first without crying. The midwife recommended we submerse him while he's wrapped in a towel, and that seemed to do the trick. He really enjoyed his bath this morning.
